In the final week of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, one of Texas’ biggest and most beloved traditions, organizers say they’re reminding guests that a dress code is already in place at the event.

The conversation started after photos and videos circulated on social media over the weekend showing some attendees wearing outfits that many people felt were a little too revealing for what has long been considered a family-friendly Texas gathering. The posts sparked a lively debate online, with some arguing the rodeo should tighten its rules while others said personal style should be left up to the individual.

Rodeo officials say the policy hasn’t changed—but it will be enforced. Staff at NRG Park confirmed that guests can be stopped at the gate if their clothing doesn’t meet the event’s guidelines.

According to rodeo officials, attendees must follow a few basic rules: shirts and shoes are required, clothing cannot display obscene graphics or offensive language, overly revealing outfits are not allowed, gang-related clothing or symbols are prohibited, and face coverings are only permitted for religious, medical, or cultural reasons.

For many Texans, the Houston Rodeo is more than just concerts and carnival rides—it’s a long-standing tradition where families gather to celebrate a piece of the state’s western heritage. And officials say they simply want to keep the event welcoming for everyone who walks through the gates.
