Summer internships offer real-world experience, $5,000 scholarships

TEXAS CITY, TX – College students have the opportunity to earn a $5,000 scholarship this
summer while getting eight weeks of real-world, hands-on experience in the field of their
choice.

The City of Texas City is now accepting applications for the Summer Hire Internship
Program (SHIP). Available positions include:
• Community Events & Tourism Intern
• Planning & Zoning Intern
• Building & Inspections Intern
• Finance Intern
• Human Resources/Legal Intern
• Innovation & Technology Intern
• Police Detective Intern
• Fire/Emergency Medical Services Intern
• Public Works Intern
• Assistant Golf Professional Intern
All SHIP interns receive a $50/week meal stipend, a year of career counseling and, upon
the successful completion of the internship, a $5,000 scholarship paid to their school.
Since the program’s creation, several interns have gone on to return to the City of Texas
City after graduation and are now fulltime employees in various City departments.
To be eligible, applicants must be a junior or senior in college, or a current graduate
student. SHIP applicants must also be a Texas City resident or a graduate of a Texas City
ISD school.
